Book Allowance

For specialty textbooks, technology, supplies and other essential course materials not covered by UCNJ’s Book Subscription Program, eligible students are able to use the Book Allowance program at the Campus Bookstore.

  • Students may be eligible for a Book Allowance if approved financial aid awards (exclusive of college work study or federal work study) are greater than the tuition and fee charges for the semester.
  • The Book Allowance Program is offered as an aid to assist students with the cost of textbooks and essential course related supplies. Students should be financially prepared for out of pocket expenditures when their maximum Book Allowance has been reached.
  • Available for the first four weeks of Fall/Spring semesters, and for the first two weeks of Summer/Mini semesters.
  • Eligible students need to present a valid photo ID and a copy of their schedule at the Bookstore
  • Book Allowance purchases are charged against the student’s financial aid. Purchases over the amount of the available Book Allowance are the responsibility of the student.
  • In the event financial aid is reduced or cancelled for non-attendance or any other reason, all Book Allowance purchases are the responsibility of the student.

Estimating Cost of Attendance Tools

Net Price Calculator

This calculator is intended to provide estimated net price information (defined as estimated cost of attendance – including tuition and required fees, books and supplies, room and board (meals), and other related expenses – minus estimated grant and scholarship aid) to current and prospective students and their families based on what similar students paid in a previous year.

College Financing Plan

The College Financing Plan within Self-Service is a consumer tool that UCNJ uses to notify students about their financial aid package. It is designed to simplify the information that prospective students receive about costs and financial aid so that they can easily compare institutions and make informed decisions about where to attend school.

Estimated Cost of Attendance

The College is required by the federal government to derive a Cost of Attendance (COA) for several categories of students. These COAs are used to determine the eligibility for financial aid. The COA represents direct costs, like tuition and fees that you pay directly to the College, and indirect costs, like transportation for going to and from class.

The COA is an estimate of these charges, based on an average for this area, and will likely vary from your actual costs in each category. The COA is different for different groups of students and may vary depending on how many credits you are taking, if you live in or out of county, if you live at home or have your own place, etc. If you are enrolled less than half-time, your cost of attendance for financial aid cannot include room and board or miscellaneous expenses.

Below are some examples of COA for Full-Time and Part-Time students:
